Tiniest chicken ever!

Glad to see Prime is hanging in there. Sorry poor baby is still having problems with pasty butt. There are several good threads on BYC concerning the problem. Hopefully it will be something that the poor baby will just outgrow. Must be humiliating to keep being turned on your head and your bum washed every time you turn around.:p
lol he seems to go to sleep while I do it but cries alot once it's done bc he's wet.

Goodness, Prime is a cutie! Are the bigger chicks being good to him?

There definitely is lots of info on pasty butt, but I'll tell ya, I have found that it clears up quickest by trimming the few little feathers that catch the poo, and even more by gently working the poop off dry, without washing. It may make it a little raw, but after watching a broody hen rip it off a chick, I thought "she can't wash it". So I've tried it dry on other chicks, and it seems to only take a couple of times that way, and it's gone. Maybe coincidence, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Thanks for the Prime update!
Oooh ok I will try that dry..I didn't want to make him too uncomfortable or damage anything bc he's so fragile but, he's a bit stronger.

I like the names. :) My first four EE chicks were Blue, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. Jurassic World had just came out, and half my basement is already Jurassic Park themed, so it fit. Then at about 5 months old Echo turned into a rooster and had to be rehomed, and Charlie was killed by a predator. I moved the coop closer to my house and ultra-predator-proofed it, then added in 5 month old pullets from the Mennonite farm up the road, naming them Clever Girl and Char (short for Charlie 2.) The two bantams that were added later are Lex and Ellie, since I assumed they might be occasionally chased by the raptor squad and it seemed appropriate. I had to swap their names once the dwarf stopped growing since it made more sense for the little one to be Lex.

I actually have this metal Jurassic Park raptor cage sign on my coop door. It has made a few friends/family members stop and stare at the fence and back away.

Aaah that is a cool sign. I will have to get one for the Jersey Giants when they get older. Sorry to hear about your Charlie and having to get rid of Echo. :(

:hitcan my poor Prime go through much else? Yes, yes he can. He is such a strong one. He is finally about long as my hand. I've been doing that dry method that WVduckchick suggested and the pasty butt hasnt been needing a cleaning for 2 whole days. Buuutttt, I noticed this hard patch on his back and found that he got burned under the brooder warmer. I didn't get Brinsea brand but another big brand from Amazon with good reviews. I had it lower in the back bc he has been so small all this time. Well, in the last week with all this growth I guess I messed up. I washed that spot thinking it was just grime or something and it had red spots and was very yellowish. I put iodine and antibiotic ointment on it and it doesn't look or smell infected at all. But it's hard. Anyway, he's not crying. He's not acting uncomfortable and I've given him nutridrench the last couple days as well. My heart can't take anymore mishaps with him .

Oh, he is soooooo cute. Poor baby. He certainly is a tough little bird. Don't beat yourself up. Accidents happen that's why they call them accidents. We've all had our share of 'oops' moments with our birds.

He doesn't look distressed. Normal wound care, clean, watch for infection. It looks like he has a blister in the one picture. Don't open it if there is a blister. Let it reabsorb on it's own. If there is deep damage he may slough off tissue as it heals.

They are as you are finding out with this little guy, very resilient.

Thank you. I made a coat for him out an old small sock so he could keep it covered then I thought about if it was me I would need air to help it heal so I took it off him. Def not going to do anything but keep it clean and medicated. ;)
