Our golden comets (in the middle), who are only 7 weeks old, are more than double the size of what we thought were speckled sussexs that are now more than 3 months old. Any ideas of what we might have -- they seem to have stopped growing -- or are there 'dwarf' breeds?

They look like hens. If not BBReds, maybe a silver duckwing OEG bantam. Cackle Hatchery has really good pictures to ID those birds.

Thanks for all the responses -- I looked at that Cacklehatchery site and the pics of the old english black breasted red bantams definitely looks like them now, and the day old pics as well -- we got them when they were just a few days old.

Does anyone know if they will get any bigger/fill out any more?

Or anything about their eggs? ... when they will start laying - @ 5 months like the others? ... and will their eggs be really tiny?! :)

They are my favorite of our 7 girls ... just the sweetest and come right over to me every time I'm in the run. They are great with being handled ... we also have these two girls -- named Bob and Peck (what happens when you let an 8 yr old boy name your
hens :) .... We thought they were bantams -- but any other ideas here? And we have a leghorn -- at least that one we know for sure!

I think the age is about right for starting to lay. And the eggs are small, like half size or less. The cool thing is, little kids LOVE them! I tell them they're little eggs just their size, their eyes just light up and they're so impressed.
At three months they'll still grow, I think about six months is full grown for most breeds. They'll always be light and quick!

Your little barred hens look like some game type also, same body style. I'm not big on bantams, will defer to someone with more experience.

I have two Barred EE pullets that look almost identical to these two, one just has more white on her head, and neither have muffs.
