Tiny holes in hen's wattles

Has anyone ever seen tiny holes in a chicken's wattles before? A few very small holes appeared in one of my hen's wattles a couple weeks ago. They weren't injuries and they didn't seem irritated in any way, so I'm very confused! I'm really curious to what the cause may be. I'm very tempted to put a gold hoop in them, lol (only kidding!) My guess would be that they were some kind of injury and this is how they healed. Often injuries to combs and wattles go unnoticed, unless they are just major, and it will only appear as a tiny dark spot. It's hard to say what may have happened.
