What a tiny lil cutie.[/URL] Had to share the pic of the tiny little ducking we picked up from tsc last week. It stood out in the bin so of course it came with us. The kids claimed it into pet status right away. It has a bit of a odd stance and slightly curled outer toes. So sometimes it falls over the feet while stepping on itself. Oh it was named Derpy. While I know its a pekin I started wondering if it could be a white call duck, but the hatchery doesnt even have those. If you wonder, yes the ducks and broilers will be seperated today. Just have to get another bin .![]()
She may have, but if your feeding chick starter which most of us have to since we don't have access to duck feed, ducklings need to have B3 {niaicn or brewers yeast] added to their diet even the other duckling that doesn't appear to have any problems can get one almost over night. Chick starter just doesn't have the amount of niacin ducklings need. Please keep us updated on Derpy and buddy. They are so special. Not yet. I have to get to TSC or Orschelns. But for now its too cold and dangerous outside. Hope I can go later today or tomorrow. Its only Derpy with the leg issue. I think she prob. came from a small or odd shaped egg.
Your talking about protein I would think the 20% would be fine it's the niacn that they don't put enough in for ducklings since this feed is formulated for chicks so "Plain" niacin 100mgs crushed and added to 1 gallon of water make sure it is mixed well then put into their waterers, or just get Brewers yeast from Walmart, not baking yeast and put 1 tab to 1 cup of feed daily. and just in case you don't know ducklings need to be able to wash their faces often so you'll need to find something they can use in the brooder that won't wreck havoc all over the place I'll get the link to caring for ducklings it has a pic of a homemade waterer that works pretty good. when I say plain niacin I mean not flush free or time released.I got Dumor 20% starter , but I can switch them to 24% starter, would this be better ? Can I use regular Niacin or Brewers Yeast from Walmart or Walgreens and how to I mix it per gallon?
Sounds good , also sounds like Derpy is always going to be tiny. wow.Derpy is doing fine. When I checked their weight Derpy was 170 gram and the big guys around 500gram . The toes seemed to have straightened out , but the feet still point a bit towards each other. When the weather is nice they go outside during the day in a small pen. This weekend they hopefully will go to the outside coop/brooder .
They said my pug would stay tiny too because as a baby he was only 1/2 the size than the other.. Beanie didn't get that notice and grew to 22 pounds. But I think Derpy will stay on the petite side. Just hope its agirl so she can stay with the others. If it turns out to be a boy he'd have to stay with the chicken because I want to breed for meat and size. I actually ordered some jumbos just for that.Sounds good , also sounds like Derpy is always going to be tiny. wow.
