New England.. the cold part.
We went to TSC to 'look' at the ducklings. well, they didn't have any, but they did have one tiny bantam left, and I picked him up cause he was just laying there, not really moving.. and he had bad pasty butt. SO i went up to the guy at the desk, and said "Hey, that tiny bantam has a really bad case of pasty butt, and unless you're going to take care of him, I'd like to take him home and try to fix him up" the guy said "fine, I can't sell him anyway, take him.' Then this lady (probably a BYC'er) yelled from across all the stock tanks "Hey, I was looking at him first!" eventually I convinced her I knew something about chickens, and would do a good job making him well... he is TINY though, OMG. I washed his bum, and set him up in a box in the brooder, getting some of the heat from the lamp, but safe from the crazy giant chicks (I think they're the same age though) who attacked him the second i tried to introduce them.... He's got yogurt, and made a super-large poo... like an inch and a half long... he's like 2 inches long, so it was SUPER huge... I'm getting dutch bantams in the mail from Ideal in a week or 9 days... so i hope they'll get along... What do you think he is?

Maybe Golden Sebright. I did the same thing for a little chick in the same situation at Coastal Farm Supply, her butt was so pasted up I could only foresee problems. I didn't need another chick, but I couldn't see leaving it to suffer, so glad we were both there to do the right thing for these babies. Here is a pic of mine..

I think they should have to hire a chicken person to check all the chicks am and pm, to make sure that they're selling the good ones, and taking care of the sick ones. My little chick has made 2 gigantic poops, and the lump on his butt was almost as big as his head, in fact, at first i didn't know what it was! He seems to be okay now. I have him in a little plastic container inside the big brooder, because the bigger guys kept trying to kill him...

and yes, both groups have water... tiny's water is in a lid with glass marbles in it, and the big guys have a regular waterer that i moved to take the picture...
