TINY Mystery Egg!

Just caught this thread to day and scrolled madly through page after page to get to the last picture and then the most recent update. It was so amazing in Pippin's 3 week old photo to see that, even though he was small, that his/her features appeared to be way more in proportion! Great story, and thanks for sharing. I'll be looking for further updates.

Fantastic thread. Just been reading through everything in one sitting. Gripping stuff

Amazing the size of Pippin. I didn't know how big a quarter was, and then someone showed an example. :O I am flabbergasted! How did you pick it up when it was younger?

Redcatcher, looking at the picture of Pippin at three weeks (amazing to compare with the other one!) I'd say it is a she too. This year I've discovered the magic of sexing by feather growth (which I know can differ with breeds, but has been accurate so far) and looking at just the tail feathers alone I'd say Pippin is a female. None of my males in the first few weeks have grown a tail like that and my females have.

Good luck with Pippin. What a cool story

Photos taken this afternoon. She is no longer "cute". In fact kind of ugly. Abnormally large, bulging eyes. Does this even look 100% chicken?

Wow! What growth. Pippin looks like it's confused on being a male or female. Those tail feathers look curly, but WHERE is the comb? Amazing how far the little chick has come from such an awkward quarter sized chick.

Now, before you go calling her "ugly", she may just be in that awkward stage. I would at least upgrade her to "interesting"! Plus, after reading her story, she has a fan club

Do you notice any particular personality traits? Thanks for keeping us up to date!

Maybe she is an alien species and traveling thru space as a goodwill ambassador-ess. I don't think she is ugly at all and I think she has big, beautiful eyes. What do they say "different strokes, for different folks."

Do the other chickens bow down to her or run in fright?

I spoke too soon!!! I love to see Pippin doing so well!!! We can't judge a book by it's cover now... Give the little bird a chance to bloom into whatever was intended!!!! Thanks so much for sharing! Yea!!!
