I have 14 quail chicks that are about 2 weeks old. One of the chicks is about half the size of the others But it seems to be eating fine. Does anyone know if they usually catch up in size later? i have a few grown quail and the males are a bit rough once they came of age.

Coturnix? I have one just like you describe. She matured and grew into a lovely little bird, just half the size of the other jumbo browns. She has a cute little snub beak and short legs and wings.

You just want to make sure your little one doesn’t get harassed or trampled. If it’s eating and acting normal, all should be well.

I've had a few like that, and I've ended up culling them at around 6-8 weeks because they didn't. I think I did find a home for one, and it never caught up in size.

I was afraid of that. thanks for the responses. Hopefully it’s a hen that lays big eggs and eats little.

I have not had such a tremendous size difference as yours, but I had a runt and a difficult hatch who both started out small and the runt caught up enough, he was still maybe 15% smaller than the others, and my difficult hatch caught up totally and is indistinguishable from her sister except I banded opposite legs. If it’s hen, I would keep it, a roo though would get a bbq invite.
