Tiny the Terrorist Attack Hen! Will She Become a Suicide Flogger?

Pics
The dad of all my large fowl chickens is Isaac. He has been the only rooster in the main flock for quite some time now. He is a sweetheart, smart, amazingly friendly and easygoing with us, even occasionally asking to be picked up by pawing our shoes with his foot or tugging on our jeans. He's what I want from all my big roosters and he passes on his temperament and intelligence to most all of his sons as well.
Cetawin has visited me several times, once with her teenage daughter, and she can attest to his personality. That is why Ike is the flock leader here and why I'm raising up his sons in case I lose my big sweet boy soon. Ike will be 5 years old in February and I hope he makes it till then, but you never know with a flock rooster, especially one who free ranges.

Here is the proof-this is Cheyenne holding Isaac. She met him for the first time ever that weekend, just walked into the coop and picked him up.

Aww, sweet pics! Roosters like that are keepers (and breeders) for sure! He reminds me of my Heide, who was so easygoing and friendly. I was given a young rooster recently, a lovely boy, amazing with the hens (2 of the 3 I have are broody and were when I got him), but he's sooo skittish. I can't get near him, except in the evenings when he's sleepy.

Sumi it was a weekend love affair....Cyn had to order the child to let Isaac be a rooster and not a hammock swinging playboy. Here is a video I made

That is so cute! I don't blame her, I don't think I'd be able to resist him either. He looks like a total sweetheart. I love how he looks at the camera like "What? Are you filming this?!"

This video brought tears to my eyes. He is obviously adorably sweet.

(Just found this thread...going to have to read through more than just the last page soon :)

Sumi it kinda worried us at first...she disappears into the coop to see the birds and comes out carrying Isaac! No one had ever picked him up except Cyn and her DH and he is cautious of strangers usually. But she carried him around and they swang in the hammock and he was perfectly happy and content. She ruined him that weekend...all he wanted was hammock time and attention from his human child. LOL

Some chickens seem to know when a human is o.k. and even more so when it's a child. But Isaac, judging by that video, is more of a marshmallow than most. Not even Heide would've taken all that kissing and cuddling without complaining bitterly! And don't even think about messing with his wattles. I used to pinch them between my fingers and gently shake them until he got this funny cross-eyed look about him. And he'd complain! LOL

Cyn, true that! I was wondering about him and Tiny... Thank goodness Raven got the best bits of that pairing.

The first time Ladyhawk was here, he was extremely cautious, never having really had a stranger come near his coop before that. He just sort of held back and I had to pick him up so she could really see him. He's always been sweet with me, more so than with DH even, but then, the chicken fellas around here know who loves 'em, seems to me. Isaac just took to Cheyenne immediately and was a lovebug the entire weekend. Poor thing, he hasn't had hammock time because it's rained all summer long and the hammock hasn't even been up more than a day.

Correction to what I said above: Should have said "The dad of all my large fowl chickens hatched here in this flock in recent years is Isaac". I hatched eggs from three breeders back in 2011 to add some new blood and to try some bantams, but the only LF additions from our own birds are fathered by Ike. That is about to change since Indy at almost 16 weeks of age is approaching fertility, if he isn't already. Haven't seen any mating behavior from Indy or Rex yet--Deacon is really showing them up at 11 weeks old, lol.

I wish you guys would send us some of that rain. It's bone dry here. It sounds like Ike really "clicked" with Cheyenne. He saw something in her. So sweet.

Indy and Rex had better watch out for that Deacon boy! LOL I had a premature 'breeder" once, he was all of 6 weeks old and still with his mom when he snuck up on another hen, jumped on her back and made a very enthusiastic attempt to mate with her, which was only spoiled by his lack of size and hysterical "squeaking" while at it. I laughed so hard when I saw that I had to sit down. A friend of ours took him a few weeks later as a breeding roo for his flock and he told me afterwards that the little guy did a "fantastic job" with the hens. The potential was there early on.
