Tiny worms in chicken poo!

Eggs should be safe. Before introducing new chickens, you should quarantine newbies for at least 30 days to prevent any diseases, parasites, virusus being transmitted to your current flock. Thirty days will give you time to visually inspect them, observe and monitor their behavior and make any necessary treatments if there's problems. You should keep them a good distance away from your current flock...some diseases and virusus can be transmitted airborne. Good luck.

I had tiny worms in my chicken poo also. I have used Wazine to get rid of them.
Does anyone know how long you have to wait to eat the eggs?

It's been about 2 weeks now. I feel bad that I have had to throw out so many eggs.
Also, what would happen if you did eat the eggs before the waiting period?
I don't want to get sick or anyone I give my eggs to to get sick

Just out of curiosity how can you tell if the chickens have worms? Only by checking their poo? What other symptoms could be caused by worms?
I have never dewormed my chickens, is that something I should be doing?

Keep in mind that wormers are poisons. Most likely if you ate the eggs they probably wouldnt bother you. It is still a poison and there's always the chance there might be a reaction to it if ingested however so slight. It is also possible a roundworm could be passed into egg, not likely, but possible. Why is there a withdrawal period? It gives time for the wormer to do its job, time to excrete the worms, time for the wormer to be expelled from their system. I dont recommend selling or giving away eggs when you worm them. Chickens INFESTED with worms will act lethargic, slowed or stopped laying, hardly eating or drinking. If you see worms in there poop, there's an INFESTATION. The few you see in the poop...just imagine how many hundreds or thousands are entrenched in their innards sucking the life out of your chickens, stealing the nutrients your chickens need to produce eggs. There are instances where chickens are acting normal and have worm infestations. This is where observing and monitoring plays a part in checking their poop often.

Thanks,

I will keep checking them. There has only been one that seemed like it was not getting the nutrients and I feel that is the one who laid the poo. The rest seem to be fine. I just made sure I wormed all of them at the same time.
I use DE also in their coop all the time. I even made a slurry of it that they ate before I gave them the medicine....but I just couldn't get that worm out of my mind,

so I went with the medicine too. I just hope it did the job.
dawg53, you said: A worming cycle is virtually a requirement if you want healthy chickens. What do you use, and how often do you worm them???

Definitely not DE!! DE isnt a wormer, it's used more for drying out runs and coops, it'll help keep feed dry, but it's useless when wet. It might prevent lice/mites, but not infestations. I use wazine, then 10-14 days later I'll use one of the following wormers: Valbazen, safeguard, ivermectin pour on, eprinex pour on, zimectrin gold or quest plus. I rotate them around but prefer to use valbazen. I also use valbazen as a first wormer sometimes and rotate it with wazine. I worm my chickens once every 3-4 months. You have to take in consideration what your environment/weather is like as far as how often to worm. If you live in a hot and humid swampy place and the soil is the condusive for worms like where I live, I have to worm quarterly.
