Tips for deterring hawks?

I also have very large pens too with trees in them all covered. Originally I didn't have enough of the good netting to completely cover all of the pens so I bought some cheap crappy netting that an owl went through. It killed some birds. I bought some good netting to replace the crappy netting with and no more issues. After I put the new netting up the owl tried again but got caught. We managed to get it into a cage and a wildlife rescue came and got it.

I also have hawks that live in my trees and fly overhead. I'm not sure whether it is one hawk or a family of hawks. I spend alot of time outside with a chicken named Speckles which flaps it's wings and runs under bushes if it notices the hawk.

One thing I noticed this year in my garden is alot of my peppers and tomatoes were being eaten by birds. They would perch on my tomato cages and start pecking away. I read online that shiny objects like CDs or DVDs can scare them away, like a scarecrow. So I tried it, I hung CDs on my tomato cages and ever since then the birds didn't peck my tomatoes or peppers. Not even once, and before that they were pecking my plants almost daily. They say this technique can also work on hawks. I can't guarantee this will work and I suggest trying a combination of strategies but it might help.

I tried the CD CD and DVD method. We have an acre and a half of land and I hung the CDs and DVDs all over the yard. I even tried netting all over the area where the chickens usually were. I had a chicken taken from right in front of me. I couldn't have been more than six or seven feet away. All of these types of things work for a minute. If Hawks are determined they will spend time watching what is going on and once they figure it out they will take your chickens. We have all bantams so it is not hard for them to kill them and even fly off with. I even made scarecrow type of dude. I put hay inside of a coveralls, made a head, put a hat and shoes on him and sat him in a chair. He looked so real that everytime I walked outside I did a double take. And it worked for a while until, just like everything else the Hawks figured it out. If somebody can come up with something I would certainly love to hear it.
