Tips for reintegrating a pullet that has healed after being scalped......

My 15-week old Egyptian Fayoumis was scalped by an older hen weeks ago. The hen is now gone, so the run is safe. The head has since healed, forming thick black skin over the place she was scalped. I thought she was fine to return to the flock. I returned her and I think the other chicks ripped off the skin that had healed, leaving her bloody once again. She is now living in a brooder in my garage with a couple other chicks. Any advice for how to reintegrate a scalped chicken? I have blukote I can put on it, but I'm worried it won't be enough to keep the others away.

It may have to be done more slowly with placing her in the coop or run inside a wire dog crate with food and water. Cover the top with a towel or other cover. Let them get used to her through the crate for a few days to a week. Then while you are there, have some supervised free ranging. There needs to be some places to get away or hide. They will peck her some, but watch for bullying. Eventually they should work it out. It is easier to introduce more than one chicken at a time.
