Tips on adding a young hen?

hi all,

i have a 3-month old barred rock ( i raised 3 chicks, 2 turned out as roosters so i had to get rid of them this week...). yesterday i just picked up a 2-month old barnevelder - my barred rock has been super mellow until yesterday, now its trying to boss the barny around. any good tips on introducing? let them work it out in the yard? keep them separated till she gets a little bigger? thanks ahead!

Hi there! And It is wonderful to have you here with us!
As long as both hens have access to food, water, and shelter; and no one is getting injured, just let them work it out. It shouldn't take too long to work the pecking order out. Make sure your coop is big enough for your Barnevelder to get away from your Barred Rock in case she gets aggressive, though. You could also add little "distractions" to distract your Barred Rock from picking on the new girl. Give them some treats, or hang a head of lettuce in the coop, whatever distracts them.

thanks for the input - i let them roam the yard all day and they made it back to share a roost tonight, so hoping thats that!
