I'm not the person you were asking, but your Silkie is a cockerel. The streamers and red coloration on the shoulders give it away (streamers are longer feathers poking out of the crest).Hi Pippin the chicken!
Can you help me sex my silkie? I am very confused on it. I was told it was a hen when I got it. It hasn't laid and hasn't crowed either. It is about 7 months old I would guess. This was right after a bath. It acts like a hen but I'm second guessing myself constantly with it.
Sexing silkies- we all know how tricky that is!
We know that you can't get it 100% correct until you find an egg or hear a crow!
But I want to know, how can you get it as accurate as possible? I'd like to gather info to help myself and others.
I might (not sure yet) get a new silkie (around 6-7wks old) and I want to know what features on a chick I must avoid when choosing one.
I will look out for comb and wattle growth, tall posture, saddles and crazy crests.
But what else do I need to look out for?
Any tips?
@MysteryChicken I know you're a master at this so please educate us!
You have an adorable cockerel. Can you please help me with this adorable silkie. I was convinced that this a girl, however now I’m not so sure. She is approximately 4 months old.

Having a rooster doesn't mean you have to have chicks. You can collect eggs regularly and not have to worry about your hens hatching any chicks. Plus it's nice to have a rooster, cause he keeps an eye on the hens. If you're allowed to keep roosters where you live, maybe it's worth thinking about keeping him. Or you could find him a new home. That's up to youThank you for the quick response. Not what I wanted to hear as I don’t know what to do next! I don’t want baby chicks!
