Tips on Shipped eggs

Hello everyone! I’ve ordered 18 hatching eggs from an online hatchery. I’ve heard that hatch rates for shipped eggs can be lower than 50%. Does anybody have any tips or tricks to keep the hatch rate up? Also, what’s the best humidity for shipped eggs? Thanks!

I’ve incubated before, but not shipped eggs. I’ve heard shipped eggs have to be incubated differently.

When you receive your eggs leave them fat end up in an egg carton for at least 12 hours at room temp. before putting them in the bator. This allows the air cells to normalize and hopefully you wont have any loose or saddled air cells. I have had best success with my shipped eggs when I do not turn them for the first 24 hours in the incubator.

Oh ok. Thanks for the tip. Do you leave the humidity the same?

I tend to incubate a little on the drier side around 30 - 35% until lock down but then I dont boost the humidity until I get my first external pip. The air cells when you candle will tell you all you need to know about your humidity level. If they are too large for the day of incubation then raise the humidity, lower it if the cells are too small. What breeds are you incubating? How far away is the hatchery from your home?

I’m incubating some Deathlayer eggs. The hatchery is only 5 hours away. I’m also going to contact them to see if pickup is available.

Amazing looking chickens. If you can pick up that would be best obviously. If they do have to ship them to you, have them ship quickest and gentlest possible.

Do you candle yours right before incubation to check the air cells? I had some shipped as well and ALL have saddled air cells. I set them 24hr point down before hand at room temp.
