Tips & Tricks for sexing baby chicks (just for fun!)

The rooster was a Rhode Island Red. the female could be a variety of chickens. We have female Brahma, Lavender Orpington, and a Mixed breed that came with the two. Their is two Rhode Island Red hens and 9 little easter eggers but they are not laying. 2 chicks have furry feet so we thing they are Brahma. The broody hen is either a Jersey Giant or a Black Asutralorp.

A little hard to guess the mother.....

Have pictures of the chicks, & possible mothers? I might be able to figure out their sexes.

brahmas are white

The Brahma is the only parent with feathers on the feet, right?

Then if the father is a Rhode Island Red, and the mother is a Light Brahma (mostly white), all feather-footed chicks are a form of sexlinks. Red = female, white = male. Both will have some black markings as they grow up.

And any chicks with a Rhode Island Red father and a Lavender Orpington mother will be black!

Without a picture of the mixed-breed hen, I can't tell anything in particular about her chicks.
