why do people want to believe that if you have chickens or any other poultry you are low class? heck most of my birds cost more than what most people have in their checking account and are cleaner than some people keep their own kids. i hate it when people assume things out of ignorance. i guess if you own a donkey you're a dumb _ss

Next time someone does that, just let your quiet grace, good manners and intelligence speak for themselves. The person doing the name calling will figure it out(IF they have a brain) and feel like a real @ss.

you'd be suprised how many people want to know why i want "dirty ole birds?" i believe if you let them be dirty they will be , but if you care for them birds are very clean. and after a really bad day it gives me peace to go down and sit with them.

But these same people let their dogs kiss them and their cat's love on them after they clean their own butts and eat really nasty things.
It's all in how you look at it. I think chickens are soooooo pretty, and their shiny glossy feathers make them look clean and fresh all the time . . .you just have to excuse people. Hard as it is.

That reminds me of a lady that came into the store when I worked at Chapters. She was looking for gardening books and we got to talking about self sufficieny. I mentioned we keep chickens, and that it'd be great if most cities would allow small backyard flocks and she was sickened by it! She told me that people abuse chickens, that they're better off in factory operations, and they're dirty and spread disease and she'd never own chickens and would report anyone in her neighborhood if they tried to own chickens, and went as far as to say that you have to be pretty low class to own them when you can just buy eggs at the store like everyone else.

I was appalled!!

The name callers are truly showing their ignorance, and they are missing out. They will never know the peace of watching our feathered friends wander the yard, searching for goodies, or the thrill of collecting the freshest of eggs for breakfast. In the end, they are truly the ignorant 'rednecks'.

My silkie "Baroness von Poofenstien" would *faint* if someone called her prissy self a "dirty 'ol burd"

I get called a redneck all the time simply because I'm from Texas. The fact that I'm a woman that drives a truck, knows how to operate a John Deer tractor(brush hog, front end loader, the whole nine)raises chickens and is married to a blue collar guy only compounds it.

To be real honest, I don't mind it at all. If they think they're insulting me, they're dead wrong. I AM a redneck because I spend so much time out in the sun working my tail off that my neck is sunburned about 6 months out of the year.

Don't let someone else's stupidity make you feel bad.

Hey now being a redneck aint low class either I'm true blooded louisiana redneck and proud of it
