Try being from Arkansas. Then you're an inbred redneck......even if your grandfather is from MO and your grandmother is from OK

Wow, I feel like I have been very lucky by comparison. I enthusiastically talk about my girls to friends and family, and post stuff occasionally on FB but have only had positive feedback so far. I mean, yes, there have been the people who didn't know much about chickens and asked questions (like "now that you don't have your rooster, will the hens stop laying?") but I've never had the sense that they were being anything other than genuinely interested in learning about them. I had lunch today with a group of people I used to work with and several of them asked about the chooks, how we processed the roos, whether the meat tasted better than I'd had before, how many eggs I'm getting now and so on. So sorry y'all are running into such ignorance.

One morning after my boys returned home from their Mom's house I had just gotten out of the shower and was drying off when my son who was about 7 at the time asked me why my neck was Red. I told him that I did not know, probably because I just got out of the shower. He said "No, Todd (his mom's boyfriend) said that you are a Red Neck!" I of course started laughing and told him not to worry about what that guy says.
I could go on and on about how much better of a person I am when compared to him but there is not enough time

and I didn't even have chickens back then.

Wow, you guys know how to operate a front-loader,plant a garden and can from it, hunt deer, fix a car, run a tractor, etc, etc? And they call that being red-necked? I call it being self-sufficient
