I have been fighting several snakes ( I think). I have caught snakes eating my eggs twice. I have put out 4 ceramic eggs and 3 are gone. I only have 6 hens and only 3 are laying in this heat so I really want my eggs.! I am considering putting up a solid , slick wall and mounting the nest boxes there about 2-3 ft. off ground. Does anybody think that this will prevent the snakes from getting to the nest boxes? I have put out rat bait stations but don't really think it has had time to impact the situation. My hens free range during the day in a 14 x 40 pen with access to the open coop where the nests are during the day. The nests are about 3 ft. off ground but coop construction can allow snakes access to nests. Any thoughts on this situation?

Pictures of your setup would help. I’d try and find where the snakes are coming into the coop and block it off somehow, but am not totally sure of how your coop is setup.
  Glad you joined.
