Tired of fighting.

Look around your area for people giving away roosters, there's usually no shortage. I wouldn't keep a rooster I can't turn my back on either. I have several and if I am in the yard with them they give me room and continue looking out for threats and finding the girls food.

I find picking up cockerels regularly and walking around with them as they're growing up stops them from getting too aggressive. Sometimes you just get a bad one though, and to the soup pot...

My first rooster was raised by a little girl. She carried him around like a baby doll. Once he became fully mature, he would sneak up on me and rake me with his spurs.
My experience almost exactly the same as yours. He's a Barred Rock which I noticed is mentioned as one of the more friendly breeds. In my experience of more roosters and cockerels than I will admit to, I've found that it varies bird to each individual bird. The way you act around the bird will make a difference too. Also, not all can be trained to respect you. I've tried everything with my jerk and to be completely honest, I think the extra attention has made him more aggressive and more determined to dominate me. My daughter (9yo) still loves him but only through a fence. She's the only reason he's made it to almost 2 years old.

He sure is handsome! Wow. I'd worry about an aggressive rooster running around whenever you have a child that's also running around near him.

At what age do rooster get spurs ???
Like @Bigtom Turkey and @JacinLarkwell replied above, they usually will have enlarged spur buds that break through the bud around 4 to 5 months. As they age, they'll get larger and longer. I haven't ever removed spurs but I know that if they are removed, they will grow back. My almost 2 year old Roosters spurs get thin as they come to point and that point will almost like "shed" off, but only about a half inch at a time and it's not something that happens often. In fact, I've just discovered this shedding recently and the boys will be 2 years old May 20 2021

X2 there are certain breeds that have a good reputation for being kind
(Orps, Barred Rocks, Faverolles Cochins )
Many people have reported Barred Rock roosters being aggressive. I myself had an aggressive Barred Rock rooster.
