@JacinLarkwell replied above, they usually will have enlarged spur buds that break through the bud around 4 to 5 months. As they age, they'll get larger and longer. I haven't ever removed spurs but I know that if they are removed, they will grow back. My almost 2 year old Roosters spurs get thin as they come to point and that point will almost like "shed" off, but only about a half inch at a time and it's not something that happens often. In fact, I've just discovered this shedding recently and the boys will be 2 years old May 20 2021
