My project Orpington roos are big babiesI have a Buff Orpington cockerel (10.5 months). His spurs are half inch long, blunt nubs. He's a bit of a jerk, not the sweet docile guy some people's BOs are. His two fellow BO cockerels were unholy terrors at 4 months and were culled. He's good with the pullets, so he gets to stay. He's.... ok.... with me, mostly. If I end up with a better guy, he'd be gone.
That's what I want. Unfortunately, TSC's supplier doesn't breed for anything but quantity.I breed for that loving personality.
My Hatchery BO cockerel was awful too. The girls were so miserable with him but he was hatchmates with them.I have a Buff Orpington cockerel (10.5 months). His spurs are half inch long, blunt nubs. Mine came from TSC/Hoover's Hatchery. The friendly trait came from a really great quality buff Orpington rooster I had years ago. Sadly I don't have pictures of him. I didn't have a good phone then. That's what I want. Unfortunately, TSC's supplier doesn't breed for anything but quantity.
Good luck with your breeding program!I hope you have many nice boys.

good hes a nice rooster then@salshep20 Here is a picture of my almost 2 year old (21 months to be exact) Barred Rock Roosters spurs. I haven't ever done anything to his spurs. I need to get a picture of my Black Copper Marans/Crested Cream Legbar cross roosters spurs. Last time I checked, it was very visible where the tip of spur was very thin and would be shed off soon. I'll try to get a picture tonight if I can remember.
