Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Putting cleaned (sanitized type cleaned) rocks in the water to where there’s no space between them will keep the little ones from falling asleep in the water.

SO glad I put rocks in for the first batch we hatched. One of the chicks was asleep with its head on a rock. So if anyone says that doesn’t work... wrong! Normally after a couple days they aren’t as zombieish? I guess that’s a way to put it! They won’t be as bad about walking around sleeping on everything and in weird positions.

Yep I use sanitized smooth river rocks in the water as well. Definitely gives me peace of mind.

I like the nipple waterer idea... 🤔

Have yet to try one, but curious how hard it is to set up?

Not hard to set up. I used the nipples you can screw onto water bottles and used zip ties to put them up. There are also chick size nipples waterers that you can put up on a block.

I don't know why I didn't love them. I never felt like the chicks were getting enough water, but it certainly was easier to keep clean. Ive never had issues with chicks in the regular chick waterers though.

I ended up going with gravity fed cups for my adult chickens waterers anyway so I didn't see the need to worry and try to teach chicks how to use nipples.

Could use some reassurance guys. We are day 21, duckling due to hatch next week. Today on my weekly check I could see it pushing against the membrane. Please tell me its just because my humiditys too low and its not going to hatch early :fl

Wow that would be really really early. What kind of duck? I'm sure you're just seeing it wiggle.

Tonight is lockdown for me! I have 25 chicken and 9 Guinea Fowl. So nervous and trying not to get my hopes up too much!

Setting up the brooder tomorrow! 😃 Come on little guys!!
