Hi I'm Tizri, I'm a first time chicken owner, I got my chickens around 4 months ago, I started with four and two were killed by dogs jumping into my yard and getting into my chicken run. This happened about two months ago.
The two survivors are a Red Star Hen named Scarlet, and a Black Cochin Bantam roo that I thought was a hen, his original name was Audrey until we figure out he was a rooster and now his name is Audrik. I adopted a silkie/polish mix rooster(named Bob Ross) and a normal black feathered silkie hen(named Boo) and a black feathered frizzle silkie(named Becky) after the loss of my other babies. I traded Becky for two Partridge Coochin & Buff Bramha bantam mixed chicks which I have named Kismet and Serendipity. So that is 6 chickens all together. The two roosters surprisingly get along very well. I love their quirky personalities, Boo is a really sweetie and Scarlet is sassy as fek. Audrik is a very placid and peaceful young man and Bob Ross is playful and affectionate to my fiance. The new chicks are kind of skittish but I look forward to learning about their personalities as they get older.
I also breed rats as a hobby and keep pet fish and pet snails. I also garden and love arts and crafts. I am in a long term polyamorous relationship and in Feb we will all be moving in together in a bigger house with better acreage. I am disabled but all my partners work, my entire life is dedicated to my animals.
I found BYC by googling questions about chickens and have been thinking about joining the forum for about two months. I actually am pretty nervous about social interaction with people I don't already know so it's a big thing for me to join here where I don't know anyone. I really do need to make friends with people who know about chickens because I keep getting bad advice from people who only want me to buy their products. I'm hoping that by joining, I can not only make new friends but I can also learn more about chickens and give them the best life
