TJ's fertilized eggs n' stuff

At a year old, they're capable of eating whole corn. But it's not going to help them lay better. What are you feeding them? they need either a layer feed or a grower, all in one, all flock, flock raiser, something like that. A balanced chicken feed, to support egg production. Corn and scratch are kind of like candy and chips---a nice treat, and fun to eat from time to time, but not going to support any production.

How many hens do you have? what breeds? How many eggs are you getting? Do you free range at all?

The chickens are Buff Orpingtons, I have 4 hens, we have 2-3 or occasionally 4 eggs a day. A few times only one egg was laid. We free range them, like most of the day. About 12 hours or something close to that. Yeah.

Oh, I just want to ask, is there any way you can tell newly hatched white leghorn chicks' gender apart?

Also, today we found that one of the eggs exploded underneath the broody-mom. What do we do? We're cleaning the stuff up right now, but is there anything else we have to do?

I want to ask something else: What if the eggs don't hatch? Does the mother get sad and stuff? Also, if we try to incubate some eggs, can a hen adopt them (without being broody)? Thanks.
