Me my wife and son live in south east TN. We have recently decided to build a coop and start raising chickens for eggs and an extra way to teach our young son responsibility. We have two LGD dogs that will protect the flock. I am currently building the coop and plan on sharing the build. After looking it seems that Orpington chickens could be hard to find in east TN so if any of you have some in the area please contact me. May God bless everyone of you.

I've gotten quail from this lady (link below) before, and she always has nice birds. She's known for her chocolate Orpingtons. I stop by when I go to the nice Memmonite farm stand on the same road that has animal sales/swaps the last Saturday of the month. I got my Easter Eggers at the swap and have seen Silkie mixes, Barred Rocks, Red Stars, and lots of regular laying breeds, but don't remember Orpingtons there. They have a little bit of everything, just depending on who brings what. I don't know what area you are in, but these are in Delano. I'm in Hixson and it's about an hour drive there for me.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
