Some people might know about a bird i have that i put threads about a while back. The one with the eye problem. She seems to be getting worse and won't eat or drink. Should i cull her? Most of the time she just sits on the bedding, I feel bad just not being able to do anything and letting her slowly get skinnier. I've never culled one of my birds unless it was for freezer camp and i've only done that once because i couldn't do it to any of my other ones. please help

I hate to say this, but the decision is yours. If I recall correctly, this bird has had her eye problem for several weeks. If she's not getting better at this point and a vet isn't an option, from what you've said, I would probably give her a quick end rather than let her suffer.

I don't know how much she's suffering, however. If she's not suffering, I would still try to treat her.

:hugs It's a tough decision, and I know you'll make the right one.

I liked this post instead of 'sad' by accident, sorry... :hit As a quail owner just the idea that something like this might happen to my quail always haunts me but sadly I still don't know what I would do. I really wish there were right answers or solutions other than 'its your choice', but it seems to be the only way. Hope your girl gets better, and if you have to make a decision, hope you don't get too guilty. Either way, you did everything you could and that's what really counts.

I agree its a really tough decision but don't let her suffer for your emotions i love my animals but if they are suffering I had a hen that had a huge gash I treated it and it wouldn't heal i couldn't do it so I had my friend come over and did it for me you have to do what is right for her

I'm sorry she got so sick :( It always sucks not being able to help. If you ever have a bird that sick again, please consider culling earlier if treatment isn't working—it's a hard choice, but it's better than letting them suffer. Hope your other critters stay healthy!
