I noticed that my new chicken has mites, and I’m wondering if I should either A. bathe her in flea shampoo and then dust her and her coop/run with DE or B. get something stronger like poultry dust.

for the coop? im not bashful with my coop .. i'll get the pump up sprayer and get the birds all out early and hose everything down with bleach.. then do inside and out and the ground with bifen and let it dry .. during the summer anyway, if you got a long hose that sits in the sun and gets red hot, hot water is 'very' effective as well .. so .. it depends on the setup you have .. but in the warmer months anyway every time you change out the flooring and nest boxes you should treat the whole thing 'good' with something so they cant get a good foothold ..

Water and bleach is probably a great idea! This is the third time in 3 weeks that I’ve had to treat her

For mites, you need to treat everyone, and the coop. Permethrin spray concentrate is easiest and least expensive, although spraying birds in freezing weather isn't best. Then, spray the coop and use permethrin dust on the birds.
Wear at least a N95 face mask, or a respirator, when you are dealing with this problem.

My preference would be permethrin. It works and is very cost effective. I have tried a lot of things and this has worked best for me. I spray inside the coop thoroughly weekly for 3 or 4 weeks because it does not kill the mite egg so repeat treatments are necessary. I use the dust on the birds and in the nest boxes. I have several coops so I buy the concentrate but if you have one coop the premixed spray is good. I mix the 0.50% ratio. The bonus is that there is no egg withdrawal period. Good luck...
