I don't know what the healing time is. What I was told when I got my OEGB that you just go through and cut the parts off and toss them back in their pen. I have also read that dipping their comb in ice water before hand helps cut off blood flow so it doesn't bleed as bad. I would keep flour on hand in case something does bleed. Just slap this stuff on and it should stop. Never done this but I have been interested.
I have a hen with an injured and now floppy comb. I am goin on vacation on Friday and wonder what my best bet is.
1) Leave it and see how it looks when I get back. But I'm worried about infection or it getting caught again and further tearing.
2) cut it tonight (Wednesday). Put her in a crate inside until Friday morning and hope it scabbed enough. Either way I don't want to leave the chicken sitter with a huge issue.
There are only 2 chickens and their run is all dirt and they love dirt baths, I don't want it to get infected either way.
I decided not to cut it, just clean it one or two time per day until I left for vacation, then hope for the best. I'm back now and it looks pretty good!
