To have rooster or not to have rooster ?

I waited until my hens were almost a year old before I acquired a rooster. They looked at him like he was one ugly hen when he first came. One hen fell in love with him and they were a pair, the other hens just tolerated him, barely. He couldn't keep them all together, but recently I had to give him up because he crowed non-stop and I couldn't take it anymore, and then the hens seemed lost without him, esp. his favorite. They wandered off by themselves a lot. But now I notice the hens are starting to stick back together and adjust again. Still, I miss having a rooster around. He was beautiful. And what a ham. He used to pick me dandelions when I walked by him. My husband warned me not to turn my back on him, otherwise I might find myself laying eggs.

HAHA!

I don't think it matters much either way, tho, whether to have one or not. Personal choice.
