To insulate or not to insulate

I live in Ontario Canada and we can get down to -30 celcius on the coldest nights. I've just expanded my coop. I will add a picture. I have fixed where you can see light shining through in this picture. I have some OSB sheets that I'm going to put up inside and I'm wondering if I should put in some insulation first or if its just overkill. I tend to go overboard when I don't need to.View attachment 4259507

My coop is uninsulated just wrapped the hardware cloth parts in plastic tarp and it will be -5 degrees Fahrenheit tonight. As long as they arent in a draft and have good ventilation theyre good! I do have 2 cozy coop panels mounted behind their roost bar to take the chill off and i gave them a big amazon box full of hemp bedding to use as a huddle box if they get cold but no shivering or cowering so far this winter and the ones out there are only 8 weeks old. Happy winter!

It is about a foot or so off the ground and so far I haven't had any rodents get in yet. But the mites and lice hiding in insulation makes sense. I did think about expanding foam around the seams in the walls but wasn't sure if thats over kill. I'm trying to avoid using a heat source so I dont have to worry about burning everything down. The water and feed are out in the covered run. Learned that lesson last year when I had the water in the coop during the winter. My rooster did get some frost bite and the sniffles last year but he was the only one and recovered fine. I know they're good in the cold but sometimes it gets bitterly cold and thats what worries me.

Definitely not overkill 😁 . Where I live it gets down to -53c and I am very thankful for the insulation! My coop stays about 20degrees warmer than outside temp (ofc this will vary depending on the chicken-square footage ratio) but point being it will always make a positive difference!
