Hi!
My family and I bought a big house on an acre on a dead end with woods behind and to the dead end side in a little mill town in WV. We finally have enough set aside to start a little backyard coop & flock of layers. We just learned that city code still allows raising poultry (yeah, I live in that "Wild Chicken town" that was in the news not long ago, although in a different part of town!)
We have 8 kids, home school (eldest is in college, but we home school the rest) and are in the new 4H program in our town (start of its second year) We eat more than 3 dozen eggs a week most weeks, so we thought chickens would be a good investment. While I don't expect to save money raising them, I do expect to enjoy a MUCH better egg!
Looking forward to learning a lot! We have a coop to build, and breeds of hens to consider. I'm finding this website to be a terrific resource.
Thanks!
