To keep or remove vent plugs?

I'm a first time hatcher with hovabator, eggs are day 17..will go on lockdown tomorrow. According to the manufacturers directions, I leave the plugs in unless humidity is high, which is what I've done I just read a hatching link on this site (by sally sunshine) and it says I should have taken them out and left them out after the 10th day. Now I'm worried....which is correct? I had one egg candled at day 14 with a live embryo appear to quit, so now I'm stressed out about it. Help? lol

Don't stress out. People do it differently, the most important thing is that they are out for hatch. I do not even use mine, so they are open for the duration. Some people have theirs in until lockdown. You can take them out now or wait until lockdown, so that you can make sure your temp/humidity doesn't vary too much for the hatch, but I would not worry yourself.

x2. Don't stress. Sometimes I leave them out the whole time, sometimes I leave them in the whole time and sometimes I just have one in or I have to take one out at various times during incubation

Thank you! I'm sure that after you do it for a while, you know what works best for your situation, but it's a bit of a guessing game the first time for sure.
