To Paint interior or not??

That must explain why my wife enjoys painting...

As I was reading this, I was thinking yes, painting is very therapeutic and relaxing, that's why I love it! Then I see Rock Home Isle's comment and it made me laugh! Vickilynn, I hope your MIL makes a full recovery. Rock Home - is that a picture of your property on your avatar? It is simply beautiful! If I had that to look at every day, I would never pick up another paint brush!!

OK, I find nothing relaxing about painting. To me, it's work. I do love how my painted coop looks and I love how it's just a relatively easy wipe down to make it sparkle again... but painting for the joy of it? Not me!

I used some leftover Kilz primer I had lying around and a gallon of mega-clearance paint that happened to be an oil-based semigloss, exterior grade in sky blue. If you decide to buy paint, the mistints stack is a good place to look. So is Freecycle (expect to mix partials) or Habitat for Humanity's Restore. It's also a whole lot easier to paint before you move chickens in so the paint has several days to dry and air out.

OH, and if you're using oil-based like I did, wrap your brush/roller in plastic and put it in the freezer between coats. That way, you only clean them ONCE.

I painted the inside of mine. I figured it would be easier to clean it out. I plan one scrubbing it down twice a year. Plus since chickens can see colors so well we painted it yellow. Figured if yellow makes us happy it should make them happy too..

I used Valspar severe weather exterior paint. It was about $22.00 at Lowes.

A lot of excellent replies here, so I guess it will come down to how much time I will have. I am one who loves to paint also- if I'm not rushed for time with it. I find it pretty relaxing, and love how things look with a fresh coat of paint. My Mil broke her neck TWO DAYS after we got the chicks, and nothing has been the same since. She's been life-flighted out twice since she broke it, to a city about 2.5 hours from us and it's been a lot of back and forth. Thankfully my dad has done a lot to help us with the coop, and my parents help with our kids when we need it. I only need about 7-8 more hours in a day and I should be able to get it all under control haha!

I went sans paint. i like the raw look of the bare wood on the walls which is 6' pine lap board recycled from a house that was being resided next to a friends house. It is actually painted blue on the back side which was originally the front. I did coat the floor with clear stain for water protection.
