To raise ducks or not to raise ducks...

@Lilbugvick :welcome
I am the kind of person that once something gets stuck in my head, I research until it happens. Sounds like you are the same.
Two hard facts about ducks. Their poo plain stinks and like another poster said recently - water is a duck's life.
How big is your backyard? Will they free range all of the time? Have you thought about predators in your area?
Just some food for thought.
I doubt anyone here is going to tell you not to get ducks. ;)

My duck house is incorporated into my landscape. It’s also about 25 feet from my back door so keeping it clean is a must do! Heavy mulch and plants around it help to absorb all the water and mess.

Yep lol! I had to order another one bc the couple won’t share with the new duck ugh! The run is from TSC but we only used part of it when putting it together. It also had a part with hardware cloth roof. We may be adding it on soon so they have a true outdoor run.

Maybe my nose is bad but my ducks poo really doesn't smell. I free range in the day and use deep bedding method in the coop . 14X14 for currently 6 ducks. The only noticeable smell is from wet shavings where they are messy with water. Perhaps it is feed difference? I have the ducks on Mazuri Waterfowl maintenance. The geese are on Purina Flock raiser and their poo definitely stinks.

Ha! I recently adopted a duck that came with a bag of mealworms. I had never fed them before but gave them all some yesterday because the new duck loves them. I dread going in the coop this morning for eggs. She came with a 5 pound bag......
