I would like to know what your opinions are on if I should keep my rooster. He isn't mean, nor does he hurt the hens, He was born on easter. I love him and so does my family. He is a french BCM rooster.(Speaking of that, I need to post more pictures of my new flock). The question is do the neighbors. My closest neighbors used to have chickens but they are my worry. We don't talk to them much, we are kind of the outcasts of the neighborhood. We live on a little over an acre. We did meet them once and they used to have a rooster on their farm but that doesn't mean they enjoy it. I was thinking we go over there with some eggs and ask them If they will be ok with it. All of my other neighbors are on the other side of the street and they have long, long driveways. I am not sure what they can hear and what they can't hear. No one has ever said anything about our hens other than asking how they are doing. What do you guys reccommend we do. Does he crow often? he crowed about 15 times this morning but thats because there is another rooster living with us for today then he is going to a new home. They were in a crowing match. Other than in the morning he only crows when we go to the coop or a few times for unknown reasons. Are there any wives tales or sollutions to keep him from crowing as often? How much louder will he get? He has an real crow right now, Its not a learning experience for him anymore. I will post a picture when I wake up again

If your neighbors don't mind or can't hear him, I see no reason to get rid of him. They are great to have around. But from what I've been told, BCM tend to crow because they like to crow. I have one that I need to find a home for. I would love to keep him, we just don't have enough property.

Great..... loves to crow because he can... I wish there was like a humane muzzle or somthing or that you could train them. I'm honestly not sure what they can and cant hear. There are 3 neighbors that I think could hear them that don't have chickens (all outlaws like me). One of them has a dog that I love that comes over when it wan'ts to "play". The other ones are renters and we are friends with the land lord. And on top of that I snowblow their driveway for free in winter. How well does the 'free eggs' work? I am maybe 50 feet from the coop right now and its difficult to hear them.

There was someone in the Buy Sell Trade that had some sort of "rooster harness", but had never got back in touch with me. I actually had my fingers crossed just hoping there was such a thing! Silly me.

Sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness that seek permission. If you're already an outcast then who cares? You have chickens and i assume you want chicks...free eggs goes a long way. Hearing a roos crow just adds to te country experience as long as it's not right under your window at dawn, it's much better than listening to a siren wail, planes overhead or loud music on a car sterio, a dog barking...etc. drop off some egs from time to time and don't even bring up the rooster crow/thing....roll with it. :-)

I think thats a great idea. Their dog last year attacked my dog on our property too, So I dont think they will do anything either.
