I did a staggered hatch recently and experimented with rinsing and disinfecting eggs. My bator was filthy inside after the first bunch hatched out, and with the next two batches of chicks I noticed a much better hatch rate with the eggs that I washed in bleach than with the ones that I just rinsed in hot water, and those ones in turn had a better hatch rate than the ones I left completely unwashed.

Jerwanman - Looks like you're not noticing much of a difference between washed and unwashed eggs then. Maybe that means your unwashed stuff like eggs just started off much cleaner than mine. It's funny, cause some people on here have had really bad hatches when they've tried washing their eggs. And some people won't set eggs without disinfecting them first. I wonder why people have such varying results with it...

Congrats on your experiment! I love it when folk do stuff like this. So interesting.

I think you see a defference in they way they are incubated! I wash eggs all the time and see no difference in hatch rates. I always have great hatches, washed or not. I am not going to put a filthy egg in my bators. I try to pick them up often enough that they are clean but i'm not retired so stuff happens.
