To wash or not to wash.......

I just rinse mine in plain water, and if I need to I use a sponge to wipe them clean. I can't stand to have dirty eggs in the fridge. After a lot of rain our coop gets pretty yuck, so I have no choice then.

OT - Nothing wrong with that, IMO. You're cooking them anyways, right? I truly believe that half the problems we have nowadays with super bugs, new illnesses and allergies run rampant (especially in children) are a direct result of our overuse of antibiotics, antibacterials and being too clean.
I won't use hand sanitizers in my home, although I do use them at the grocery store, to wipe the shopping cart, etc. Antibacterials I use sparingly, for things such as poopy messes. If it gets dropped on the floor, it gets a quick swipe - usually to knock the dog hair off of it

and life goes on.
I raised two very healthy kids this way. DSD #1 is raising the GS to the other extreme. Pacifier sanitizers???

I haven't seen the kid once that he wasn't sick with something.

Well, chickens walk in poop, then walk over the eggs into the nests. I wash my eggs and refrigerate. Any that are really gross go to the dogs or into my "rot bucket" when they are rotten and stinky they get tossed on one side of my garden in the trees to turn off the deer.

If it's muddy, my chickens get their eggs filthy. If they're muddy or poopy when I collect them, I'll put the eggs in very warm water for about 3 minutes to loosen the crud. Then, I barely touch them to clean the mud off under very warm water. I do not scrub them at all. I leave them on the counter for a few days before refrigerating. I heard somewhere that you shouldn't put them straight into the fridge, but I've never read or heard that confirmed anywhere. I just do that out of convenience.

A friend of mine is a compulsive cleaner and can't stand for anything to be dirty. Her neighbor would give her eggs and she soaked them in the sink in bleach water before refrigerating. Knowing what I know now, I can't imagine what those eggs must have tasted like. Blech.
