As luck would have it, my five week old BLR Wyandottes arrived today. After eating their fill of starter and lots of water they had some for a snack. They seemed to love it.
I know, I've learned a ton here. I felt so bad for the girls. They were shipped express but took two days to get here. The PO called at 6 AM and said they're here but we're not hearing much noise from in there so you probably want to get here quick as you can. She had a very ominous tone. I was petrified. I went to fetch them still in my jammies. I opened the corner of the box and could see three were alive, but couldn't tell about all of them. I gave them a half a banana for the ride home, once I got there I found they were all OK and much deserving of treats.

glad they were all okay, probably just weak from lack of food. I am sure they love you now, for feeding them when they were starved.
I read this late last night and was anxious to try it today. At first all of the chicks avoided me and the cheerios. Then one of the friendlier chicks came over to my hand. She took one little piece of a cheerio and immediately there were chicks all over me. They were nearly fighting to get to the cheerios. My 9 year old daughter tried feeding them and they went crazy for her as well. When the cheerios were gone it seemed like nearly all of the chicks wanted to be held. It seemed like they could not get enough attention.
By the way, we used regular cheerios. Not the Honey Nut. They were crushed very fine, almost to a powder. The chicks have had grit available for a week now, and they are definitly consuming it. Some of the chicks are 2 weeks old and the others are 3 weeks old.
I'm convinced that tuna is chicken crack. It's a feeding frenzy when I pop open a can of tuna.
(The downside to all the treat options is that there will be a point that you look in your buggy at the grocery store and realize that all the food in it is for your chickens...)
