To worm or not to worm, that is the question…

First, apologies to Bill Shakespeare. The question remains the same.

I have fourteen females. Five hens are four years old. Five Brahmas are 18 months old. Four girls are five months old. My girls are all in the midst of a molt (even the youngsters). The old gals are in the midst of an UGLY molt. We are taking naked fannies and bare breasts. The Brahma girls are just starting their first adult molt and are already showing signs that it’s gonna be a major naked Woodstock. The Littles have only lost a few feathers and I don’t expect much from them.

Someone, no idea who, has roundworms. I found a pile of dead worms and poop right outside the pop door this morning. I want to dose everyone with a wormer in their water. (Most of my girls don’t eat bread and I have a type of palsy that wouldn’t allow me to catch and dose fourteen birds.) I don’t care that my girls won’t have show quality feathers, but I am concerned that they stay warm this winter.

Any suggestions from you guys with more experience? This is the first time I’ve seen worms in any of my current birds (none in my previous flocks either). Should I dose everyone now or wait til the majority of the molt is over?

I have ivermectin and Safe-Guard, so could use either or neither.

It would be best to worm your birds with Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer. Dosage is 1/2ml given orally to each chicken using a syringe without a needle. Then redose again in 10 days.
The roundworms are the cause of the shed intestinal lining that you're seeing.
Ivermectin has lost its effectiveness treating roundworms and since your birds are in molt, Safeguard can cause abnormal feather regrowth. Here's a link for you how to worm your birds: Please see post #4 in this link:

Maybe I can ask the neighbor for help. I shake so bad there’d be liquid all over everybody! 😂
