I wish I could tell you more, I do not have that kind of heat here for that long. They seem to adapt, like we all do to our climate.

During the summer the toads are pretty naked and ugly. They look nice this time of year.

Just thought I would pop on here to announce the sad news that Mr. Red died today. He was fine at 3:30 this afternoon and a few hours later dead. So I am down to just the one hen now. I really hope she makes it as I would like to cross her with my large cuckoo maran to help with the genetics at my place as I no longer have the rooster for breading. Hoping she makes it a few more months. They are pretty awesome birds though!

So sorry to hear about Mr red... how old was he?

I read just about this entire thread and I have no clue about meat birds but I absolutely love the idea of a slower growing, bigger, self sustaining meat breed! I really hope the breed thrives and spreads so when I get my house on a hill I can get some! for now, I must get through college... I am grateful that there are people who dedicate themselves to this genetic work!

Thanks. They have such a sweet temperament it is not work, but fun to raise them. The hard part is processing them. They all want to be friends.
