Today is day 21 for Pearl. (NEW UPDATE ON Pg. 2)

ok so Pearl came out to eat yesterday and i snuck in to take a peek at the eggs. i gave her 4 of Flo's new eggs on day 24 when her eggs didnt hatch. well, i more like presented them to her to see what she would do and she took them from me! LOL. but anyway. so i get under there and look and now there are 5 toasty eggs! surely she didnt lay one of her own while setting the others did she? they dont do that, do they? i'm assuming Flo laid it near her(she had been laying right behind her in a nother nest) and Pearl just took that one under her wing too.

In a related question, i found an egg yesterday in a new nest and i assumed it was Flo's new nest. today there were two eggs, so i assumed she laid another today. but then this afternoon right before dark when she went to roost in the tree she dropped at softshelled egg. so i guess she just couldnt control herself and let er rip. OR is it possible that Minnie who has been raising chicks about 3 weeks now is laying again already?

i'm not sure. a possum got one of my chickens last night but something else got her eggs later like between 2 and 4 i think. i figured it was a snake b/c Pearl is fine and 4 eggs were gone without a trace and one egg remained. so i took that egg and busted up her nest like i should have done last time so that she wouldnt be a sitting duck there tonite. came back a few hours later and there was a new egg there LOL? so i snatched that one too. Pearl started setting again later on nothing and i shooed her off and i think she got the message b/c she is sleeping with the others now. but i dont know maybe 5 oclock this afternoon in broad daylight a big raccoon comes running up towards the yard from the woods. Minnie with chicks was the first one to notice and fluffed up and went after him sounding an alarm, then the rooster went off on him, and Flo made some noises too. and those three ran him a pecan tree. and then i beat him with a stick and chased him off. *sigh*

but i heard my rooster crowing at 2:30 last nite and then again at 4:30 which his usual time and i remember hearing Pearl making her announcement that she was getting off her nest but i'm not sure what time it was. must have been 4:30ish b/c i just figured she was getting up for the morning b/c shes always very vocal when she gets off.

I think you could have a tv show with that much action w/your group.On animal planet like Mir cat manor.The way you tell the story is excellent.Maybe a book would be good.Hope no more snakes or coons get your babies.Where do you live?
