My DH brought home to me a little over a ton of "screenings" from the quarry where he works in order to put into our coop pen. The screening is a mixture of sand and small angular stones ( a little larger than grit). I had never thought of cocci being in the material! I hope that it is clean. I not only shoveled the mixture into the coop pen, but also placed it around the pen (10'x10') to make it easier to mow. Then I made a little walkway around the coop building because it became so muddy once the ground thawed. I do not have any chickens in this coop at the moment, because our hens are in a portable coop until December, but I am getting 30 meaties soon and they will use the pen. I read that I should be able to rake out the poo from the pen now that I have sand in it. I hope so.
but the question is... how's your back TODAY?
BTW, you're gonna love the sand. Seeing all those footprints always cracks me up. And the poo just disappears like magic...
