Today is the day!

Finally! The weather has broke and the last potential frost date has passed! Today, if the rain stops, I will be doing some light tilling for weed control and then its seeds in the ground baby!

The cool season crops are looking great and we are already getting some great lettuce and radishes.

For some reason though, my spinach refused to germinate. I replanted it 3 times and not one sprout. The 1st 2 i attributed to being washed out due to heavy rains immediately following planting. But the 3rd was pristine germination conditions and nothing. Oh well, the lettuce is going great. Be happy with what ya got.

I've been having a bear of a time with spinach too this year. I attribute it to trying a new variety and I guess there's something wrong with the seeds, because 0 germination from the new seeds. Still had old seeds (Bloomsdale) from years past, so I plunked those into the ground after 2 attempts at seeding the newer ones, and the old ones germinated. So guess it's back to old spinach for this year, and I'll try something different next year.

Bloomsdale is what i planted last year and harvested a bumper crop. This year all the garden center's seeds were hit hard by all the new covid gardeners. I found 3 packs, all different, and the last of each. I bought them all hoping that one would take and I'd save the others for next year. Well, 3 packs later and still no spinach.

Potatoes, peas, carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, lettuce, onions, garlic, radishes, and asparagus was planted back in march and is doing awesome!
Going in now are tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, corn, dill, herbs, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, butternut squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, and okra.
Once the peas and potatoes are played out, green beans snd llama beans will take their place.
Probably will try a fall spinach crop later on

Wow! I bet dinner is never a boring time at your house! I grew watermelons one year and it was probably the most fun crops I had grown in a long time. (Plus, my chickens loved them!)

My wife, bless her heart, can't cook. I shouldn't say that. She has learned a few things over the years, but in general I do all the cooking. Good food is something I love to enjoy and create. I have no formal training but rather learned from my mother only with tastebuds that favor bolder and spicier flavors.
In college, I would try all kinds of new things for tailgate parties and then tell my friends what they ate after they told me how good it was. It was hilarious to watch them (girls especially) freak out after telling them that the delicious biscuits and sausage gravy they ate for breakfast was actually squirrel and not pork.

I have grown gardens on apartment balconies, potted terraces, and now traditionally in the ground. I am working on a hydroponic system as something different to try as well. Nothing beats fresh!
