Today's temperature = # of eggs.

Feb 28: L 32 H 44 - 6 eggs - guess they don't like the warmer than average weather (per the theory

)
Mar 1..: L 30 H 32 - 7 eggs
Mar 2..: L 27 H 32 - 7 eggs

Almost done with the "broody buster" cage. Just need to figure out a way to keep the door closed. I bet the Faverolles will be super unhappy after I toss them out at morning treat time and when they try to get back in the nests I shove them in a cage instead.

Since they aren't laying, I can still claim the eggs I have are from cage-free chickens, right?

Does excessive rain stop them from laying? My girls were doing fine until we've had extremely wet weather. Hardly any eggs this week? Normally get about 3 or 4 on average a day? Anybody else got that experience? Its about 13 to 15 degrees C here at the moment. Or would it be the change in weather that has caused this bare patch?

No real data that I know of, but mines seem to be sensitive to weather changes as well. they do lay better during pretty weather.

We had a high of 8 degrees today.. Celsius of course! It's never cold in the UK (nor hot for that matter), but it sure does rain.

I collected 53 eggs from my 93 birds in total today. Good to see them laying again and productivity increasing after a cold and snowy winter (well... for British chickens anyway.)

We have a weather system rolling in today. Yesterday we got 48 eggs out of @ 60 hens. I think they laid more yesterday before this weather system moves in. Today I should have fewer eggs.

We have been having nice weather for us, 32 to 35, no wind and I've been getting 40 eggs out of @ 60 hens.

I love your Avatar! Is it a Polish or some UK type chicken I know nothing about?

It has been my experience that any abrupt changes in their environment mess with their laying cycles more than anything. Things like, big temperature swings, to sudden snowfalls... and some individuals are more "upset" by them than others. So, a muddy day or two seems like it would interrupt their routines enough to have an effect on their laying cycles.

I've got a Wyandotte who apparently is not a fan of the snow... Kansas City has not had any real snow all winter long... until last week... It's like she literally hopped off her roost that morning, padded over to the door, looked out and was like... "Awwwww "HHhh" no!" Popped out the one egg she had in the queue a day late and then hasn't laid an egg since. Two of my EEs were only slightly affected and everyone else just carried on like nothing happened.

3 March: Low 20 High 29 - 5 eggs
4 March: Low 18 High 25 - 7 eggs

I let both of the broodies out of the box this morning at treat time- 7:30. They were in a better mood than they were when I took them off the nests at morning treat time other mornings.

They both went for the BOSS then acted more like "normal" but Clemence headed back to the nest about 10 minutes later (still, at least 5 minutes longer than the last couple of weeks). So, back in the box she went. Apparently ~24 hours in the box was enough for Anais. She didn't go back to the nest for the 15 minutes I could stay so I let her stay out of the box. I went back out at 10:30 to check the nests for eggs and Anais. 2 eggs, no Anais! Same thing about 2:30 and again at bed time - 5 PM. GOOD CHICKEN. She gets to spend the night on the roost. On parole, released on her own recognizance. I'm guessing one more night in the can will be enough for Clemence as well.

Oops, forgot I replaced the 38 gram Cubalaya egg in the carton going to work tomorrow with a 48 g from Friday. I'd rather give out eggs only a day or two old so the customer has the freshest possible but those peewees are REALLY small. So 7 today, not 6,
