Today's temperature = # of eggs.

Sunday: Low 29 High 57 - 7 eggs
Monday: Low 40 High 47 - 9 eggs
Tuesday: Low 22 High 34 - 10 eggs. If I get to count this tiny little thing I found in the run:

It weighs all of 8 grams. The blue one next to is is 58 grams. I have 2 girls that lay white and there was only one white egg in the nest boxes today.

Wow! Where did that come from! My daughter loves the "woopsi" eggs and likes to crack them and see if there is anything inside to cook. We have gotten ones that are nothing but shell with membrane but no "goo" inside.

We have been rainy and cool the last couple of days, hi around 50 9/12 eggs. I think my cochin gave me an egg last weekend but haven't gotten another so not sure what is up. It was a different color tan than any of the others but as big as my Favs medium sixed eggs. Yesterday I got a small, very brown egg that was all wrinkly so I don't know who gave that one up!

I really need a chicken cam!

That little egg looks like one of mine very tiny.. My two hens should be hatching out chicks in next few days. Can't wait
Congrats on the babies to be!

Are you guys getting as wet there as we have been the last three days? I hope the weatherman's weekend forcast is correct. It should be beautiful. We will see what the girls think about it.

It didn't rain today, but we've had more than our share of rain. Hubby had to mow grass today he hadn't mowed for couple weeks because we sewed new grass seeds wanted them to get nestled in . Grass was about 8 to 10 inches high! And my chicks started hatching this morning had 7 hatched at last count. And those two bantams that are setting on them are two mean mamas! Wow didn't realize they were so mean when it came to baby chicks! 1 chick fell put of nest went to help it back in and both hens attacked me! They went crazy! Lol got 7 from 7 in my big hen pen today, was glad of that.. Anyway everyone have great night...

The little one has disappeared, I'll have to ask my daughter if she put it in the omlette she made and if so, what was inside the egg (besides NOT MUCH!)
I need a cam too. There are the occasional wrinkly ones. I know that 2 were from Yue based in the shape and color (white) but the last one was light brown and a little thin shelled.

Hopefully not from eggs that tiny or Bantams will look like giants!

Mowed the grass

I just took off my snow tires today!

Wish I had a camera out with me today. Went to the barn around 5, found the 2 Partridge Chanteclers nearby but no one else. They weren't over in the old horse manure pile as they have been of late. Found them all in the veg garden (don't worry, see that reply to Savannah? Nothing to damage.) They haven't found it before, just wandered in the gate which was ajar. Of course if the gate is closed, that 2 1/2 foot fence will be a REAL obstacle for them to get over if they want to

It has been blowing from the south like the dickens all day. The veg garden is on the south side of the lot, the barns to the north. It looked like I had a dozen really small Tom turkeys when the girls headed home. Even the Cubalayas with their "down" lobster tails were blown up, forward and fanned by the wind!

Bruce, what breeds laid these eggs? Here's one that surprised us last week — from one of our Barred Rocks. We don't know what to make of the white speckles.

One of my wyandottes lays a light brown egg with white speckles...after a few days, they fade. From what I understand it comes from the hen laying on a thick bloom. I think it's pretty.

My Black Australorp that lays a medium dark brown egg sometimes lays one like that. Not a many white specks though. And the Easter Egger that laid the larger blue egg in the picture frequently has a bunch of little calcium deposits on the pointy end of the egg. I have to think that super rough "sand paper" can't feel good coming out. Since the tiny egg is white, it had to be one of the Anconas. Yue laid a 56 gram egg that day so the tiny one must have come from Zia.

Tuesday: Low 40 High 49 - 9 eggs.
Wednesday: Low 42 High 50 - 7 eggs.
Thursday: Low 32 High 37 - 4 eggs.

They have been stuck in the lower barn alley this week as no one is here during the day to check on them. I don't know if that is affecting their laying or not.
