I think anyone that gets any kind of poop on their hands is very aware of what they touch immediately after.I touch poop to; clean the coop, change her diaper, wash the dog's butt, collect eggs, when she removes a dirty diaper in her crib, sticks her hand in her diaper, potty training...
Any number of ways to get poop on me. I keep in mind at all times where my hands are going. If I touch a handle or doorknob with dirty hands, it gets cleaned thoroughly. And repeatedly.
If worms were as clean as we typically think they are, we would not be afraid to let our chickens eat even earthworms. Gasportpony and Akrnaf2 have both shown us studies about the dangers of our chickens eating any kind of worm other than freeze dried. Not that that is what I'm thinking about. It is just something to back up my disgust about her touching worms. Or, I could just point out that we all have fears. Snakes and mice have been mentioned. I can handle both. I am not afraid of spiders either.

I had no idea earthworms were bad for chickens?
Worms..my son loves to dig them up before we head to grandmas...so he can use "his" fresh worms instead of grandmas store bought ones.
Spiders....I just squish em....
Snakes..I move in the other direction
Mice...I will come close to having a heart attack!
I had NO idea that worms could be bad for chickens...
I am going to have to read up about that.

Insect from one hand are grate food source for them but there is always the tisk of infection! And the truth is that all chicken have parasites, the influence of them on the chicken is depending on their Load, and is dependent on the helth and the immune efficiency of the chicken immune system, instead on treating parasites invest in preventing from them to reach the load that make a damage.
There are some parasitic worm that their intermediate host are snails and slugs, gape worm ,and some other.
Be aware that a lot of chicken parasites use a intermediate hosts, especially beetles, earth worms ect. As vectors entering the chicken.
