Duckling doesn't climb. She tried it once. I would put a crib canopy on if she tried it again before she was ready for a bed.

I've never had a kid sleep in a crib - the exception was my toddler in the nicu - he slept in a crib until he came home, then he slept next to me, amongst all the wires, oxygen and monitors so I could get a nights sleep and feel him breathing and be able to slap his alarm off when he was fine and it was just being picky. ^.^Duckling doesn't climb. What's funny, is I forced my oldest out of my bed early, thinking it was best to make him independent, and it really didn't work well. He's the only kid who's not well adjusted compared to my othersI understand a family bed. Especially in your case. But when it interferes with the mental and emotional well being of anyone, it needs to stop. Seven is the average age to stop it. After that, psychologists become common in the life of the child.
They become incapable of dealing with real life.
Princess will still climb into bed occasionally when sick, but she is a major bed hog.
Our kids try to climb in our beds to lay with us still, but I get a little uncomfortable with 40 year old kids wanting to spend the whole night with us...and the grandkids never understand it..
