To my 5 year old: "There are Christmas gifts from Great Grandma Cindy downstairs! Do you want to open them tonight?" "Nope! I want them to be a surprise until Christmas!"
December kids have VERY particular ideas about Christmas gifts.
Detailed response for MC:
My 2 year old is still nursing (2 1/2 today.) Wakes multiple times a night. We're actively weaning because NO THANK YOU. We've gone 2 days with no daytime nursing, and just snuggling to sleep, and no wake-up nursing (we've been doing this actively for a little under a week - I think.) With a 4 day now, her dad woke up with her the second time last night. I feel SO much better with less nursing, and able to take one of the supplements I was prescribed back in February (when she is weaned/after flu season, I'll go up to the full dosage.) If she's not weaned by New Year's, I'll go to a motel on January 1st, so there's a forced night of no-nighttime-nursing.
My 5 year old still wakes up at least once a night, but he's been weaned since he was 2 years, 4 months (he did it cold turkey on his own) - he often comes to our room after a nightmare. Last night, he woke just as I got his sister to sleep. Nice long hug, pulling a blankie up around him, a back rub, and he was out. Heck, *I* still wake up once a night (on average) to go to the bathroom.
I slept through the night ONCE in the last 5 1/2 years. (Active day after a few days of a stomach bug.) I had one other night where kids didn't wake me (daughter was cutting 4 teeth, which made everyone exhausted.) I could sleep while they nursed until the past few months, when she started biting down when she falls asleep. Now, there's a little note of terror in my brain whenever she nurses.

You must have a secret to function at all.
Duckling was crying so hard because she peed the bed. She is playing with her soap markers in the tub now, and I’m happy as can be about changing the bedding. She was so wet!!
