Dear Doctor Mommies,
I suddenly have a productive cough, and occasional sore throat(second day now). I woke a few times last night because my throat hurt. It felt dry, not the usual sore throat. When I pulled the blanket up to cover my nose and mouth, the sore throat went away.
I do have allergies, but covering my nose is more to keep me from sneezing due to allergies ( if this all sounds gross to you, rest assured that my nose is not running when I do this, and I don’t sneeze. :sick ).
So, my question is, how did covering my mouth make my throat instantly stop hurting?

warming the air and it keeps the moisture from your breath in it

ETA - lol, what she said!!! ^^

I thought I was horrible for not knowing, “oh, she drinks this much, and...” I just know she was drinking enough that she should have peed before 24 hours was up. That was the concern.
One mother was told that a child can’t go overnight without peeing. That I would hate to see.
Maybe you worry too much and she picks up on the drinking/ peeing anxiety.
Honestly I would spend my efforts and anxieties having fun and teaching her new and exciting things (which the bios won't).
And just because she goes to school does not stop you home schooling her as well. Getting her ahead of her peers even at this age will give her a rewarding sense of achievement that will set her up to love learning and doing well.

Moisture, I'm going to guess. In the winter, there is less moisture in the air, and there is water vapor in our breath when we exhale, so putting the blanket over your face conserves air moisture instead of letting it escape. Lack of humidity here causes many a sore throat, especially in the winter.

Primarily this, along with the fact that the moisture from your body alone already has the humidity of the air under the blankets probably double what the ambient air humidity is, add your exhaled breath and instant soothing to the throat.
Try turning your shower on straight hot for about 5 minutes when you are in the bathroom with the door it shut, and put a big kettle of water on the stove with a few drops of mint oil or wintergreen oil in it (you can even use a few drops of the oil used to flavor hard tack candy if you have it).
For congestion and sinuses I will use a washcloth damp wth hot water over the face and covered with a heating pad. The humidity helps break up the thickest of the congestion.
