Toe punch........how to please

I realize this is an old thread but can't find any info for what I need.
I toe punched one hatch and it's hard to get the whole center out. Some wanted to grow back.
Now with this hatch I'm having a "hanging chad" and I'm worried it will again try to grow back.
Am I doing it wrong? Is there a secret?
I really need a permanent id for these different pens
And if you do it at 1 or 2 days old they hardly notice it happening.

You can also take a small pr. Of scissors and just cut a slit in the webbing and it won't grow back. Since u have the punch try to cut a u out if the webbing so it dosnt grow back. U can also cut the hanger off with scissors.

If I toe punch I do it between incubator or broody hen and brooder just after they dry

Thank you I think I have manicure scissors that will have get off the little hanging pieces. Great idea , thank you!
